A:"Hazel"
B:"Haziel"
A:"Oh, Haziel...Haziel what do you fear?"
My TA asked me what i feared...
I wanted to answer "Ive learned, in psychology, that everything is really in your brain, your mind, so there is no point in being afraid of anything" but i couldnt bring myself to say that and I told him i didnt know what i feared.
But toward the end of the rotation of the ice breaker a classmate answered: the police.
And then i agreed with him.
He explained that he feels that they are not out there for his protection and you never know whats going to happen and that pigs are hostile. Fortunately for him, he was a white fellow, he doesnt know what its like to be black or brown and live in LA. Nonetheless, it was a good answer. We can all agree that in a given police confrontation if you put a black or brown folk in the situation, the penalty is worse for the latter than it would be for the white man.
And it was an interesting class section that made me laugh....
Some girls said they feared mustard, i think that was the wierdest.
One kid said he feared sleep because his dreams haunted him. He was serious, poor kid.
A lot of folks feared darkness and spiders and heights.
The TA was incredibly sarcastic and the class was pretty animated.
It was perhaps the best section/discussion so far.
